ACCOUNTANT with a water authority. This position is located at the Del Oro Water Corporate Offices in Chico, California

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer & Director of Corporate Accounting the position will perform routine analytical duties with responsibility in one or more of the following areas: General Ledger, Accounts
Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory, Water Accounting, Water Budget, Year End Processing, Financial Reporting.

Summary of Duties:

  • Assist in the coordination of the development of the annual budgets
  • Manage asset records of the company and its affiliates
  • Assist Accounting Technicians in the processing of receivables, payables and check reconciliations
  • Prepare and post month-end and year-end adjustments and closing entries to the general ledger and balance
  • subsidiary ledgers with control accounts in the general ledger
  • Assist Finance Director in compiling annual audit data
  • Assist administrative staff with contract administration
  • Other related work as required to include: Field Asset Management, Risk & Resilience, Environmental & Compliance Reporting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and/or equivalent
  • Two plus years as an Accounting Technician or bookkeeper or comparable accounting experience
  • Basic accounting principles, basic mathematics including fractions and simple interest, alphabetical and numerical sequences, general office practices, proper telephone procedures and proper grammar
  • Prepare and post month-end and year-end adjustments and closing entries to the general ledger and balance
  • subsidiary ledgers with control accounts in the general ledger
  • Assist Finance Director in compiling annual audit data
  • Assist administrative staff with contract administration
  • Other related work as required to include: Field Asset Management, Risk & Resilience, Environmental &Compliance Reporting

Ability to:

  • Coordinate property acquisitions, transfers and retirements, administer periodic inventories of property items, and verify payroll time records
  • Maintain clerical records and prepare reports and anticipate problems (including the development and anticipation of solutions
  • Effectively work with all levels of employees, departments and management
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with other personnel, governmental officials, and the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with agencies, consultants, customers, employees, and vendors
  • Ability to interpret and apply business and governmental laws and regulations
  • Effectively demonstrate the application of all skills, knowledge, and aptitudes required to carry out the duties and responsibilities cited above
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable state, federal and local laws, and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate employees
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate record
