River Island Water Quality Overview

River Island Water Quality Overview

The River Island Water Treatment Plant went online in July 2024 and has now completed 12 months of rigorous water quality testing. During this period, every sample collected has consistently met or exceeded all state and federal drinking water standards.

The results are outstanding: water leaving the facility is of exceptional quality, with clarity, taste, and safety verified through continuous monitoring and independent laboratory testing. These results confirm that our customers’ investment in advanced treatment technology is delivering the highest level of protection for customers and the community.

We remain committed to transparency, reliability, and providing safe, clean drinking water every day. The success of the River Island Water Treatment Plant demonstrates not only compliance with regulatory requirements, but also an ongoing dedication to delivering water you can trust.

We are aware of recent complaints and concerns regarding the quality of water provided by our system. While we take all customer concerns seriously, it is essential to be clear and direct: the water currently being delivered to your homes fully complies with all health and safety regulations.

Our water system operates five fully compliant wells and a state-regulated treatment plant, all of which are continuously monitored and maintained to meet the highest water standards. All required water quality testing is conducted in full compliance with the State Water Resources Control Board – Division of Drinking Water (SWRCB-DDW). All laboratory results fall well below the established Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) and are regularly reported as required by law.  Your water is safe to drink.

We are also aware that some confusion has been caused by the continued issuance of monthly and quarterly public notices tied to past compliance orders. To be clear, the wells named in those compliance orders are no longer in service and have been physically disconnected from the active water system. We are working closely with the SWRCB-DDW to remove the notice requirements and demonstrate how DOWC is delivering water that meets all applicable standards. However, until the SWRCB formally removes the notice requirements, we are legally obligated to continue sending them even though the conditions that originally triggered the notices no longer exist in the current operational system.

We recognize that these notices may cause confusion or concern, but we urge you to understand they do not reflect the quality of the water you are currently receiving. They are a regulatory formality required for the time being.

Every water sample is taken and reviewed by certified professionals, and our operations are subject to regular oversight and reporting requirements. The results speak for themselves: our water is safe, compliant, and reliable. We are committed to maintaining customer communication, and we strongly encourage any concerned customers to review our Consumer Confidence Reports (Water Quality Reports), which are publicly available and clearly outline all water testing results.

Should you experience a specific, individual issue such as taste, odor, or color, please report it directly to our office so it can be properly investigated. These are often related to in-home plumbing or localized issues, not the overall water system.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to provide safe, clean, and fully compliant drinking water. We stand by the integrity of our water system, our staff, and our testing protocols. Public health is our highest priority, and we will continue to meet and exceed all standards required to ensure your water is clean, safe, and dependable.
